Create a Candy Buffet

I only had to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory once to know that I needed to have a chocolate party. And what better way to feast at a chocolate party than with a buffet of candy?!
One of the best things about a candy bar is the variety of candy available. When you are making your selections, ensure that you are choosing items that are colorful and represent the varieties of candy available - not just chocolate!
I recommend that you purchase the following items: Bulk bag of M&Ms, at least a dozen Lollipops, Gumballs, Mini-/Snack Size Chocolate Candy Bars, Chocolate covered pretzel sticks, Gummy bears, Sour Patch Kids, Cowtails (long caramel sticks with the crème in the center) and Peppermint starburst candies. Supplement your buffet with your family's other favorite candies.
Your buffet should be set up along one side of a table or counter. Place loose items, such as the M&Ms, into cereal bowls with spoons for scooping. Place the bowls at the front of the table so that children can easily serve themselves.
Fill a tall, skinny vase or bottle with gumballs to continue adding interest to the display. Place the gumball vase in a second row behind the bowls, in the center of your buffet. Arrange chocolate covered pretzel sticks and cowtails in tall vases or sundae cups for additional height. Place one on each side of the gumball vase.
Group lollipops into half dozens. Wrap the sticks with rubber bands to keep group together and place the groups into miniature vases. These not only continue to add dimension to your display but can be used as favors at the end of the evening. Flank both sides of your second row with the lollipop bouquets.
At the end of your table, set out small bowls for children to collect and serve themselves a smorgasborg of candy and create a candy mix all their own. Or, if you are a bit uncomfortable simply serving candy, consider having a base for all of these goodies. Vanilla ice cream or waffles are fantastic for candy toppings!
Odds are that the children at your event will have a lot of energy after eating all of that sugar, so be sure to offer high energy games. Some suggestions include a dance contest, game of Twister, or a simple footrace.
Have ziploc bags on hand at the end of the evening for children to make a take home party mix of their favorite candies. Or, if you're feeling more clever, why not purchase small gumball dispensers for the kids. They can fill/refill these with treats to take home!

How Has Frozen Yogurt Become As Popular As Ice Cream?

Over the past decade frozen yogurt has become nearly as popular as ice cream. In terms of desert sales, yogurt has seen an increase of 74 percent in sales whereas ice cream has only increased by 3.9 percent. At the same time, ice cream has traditionally been the leading seller and still represents nearly 55 percent of sales in the frozen treat market. Industry experts note yogurt has benefited from multiple factors. It has seen a general increase in overall popularity with a significant increase in popularity as a healthy snack alternative to ice cream.
Frozen yogurt initially gained traction as the ideal cold sweet for people suffering from lactose intolerance. While buyers can purchase lactose free cream it has not proven to be a popular choice. Yogurt utilizes broken down lactose content and active cultures which makes it easier to digest. When purchasing yogurt is important to ensure it has active or live cultures because it is not an ingredient included in every version of yogurt.
Another reason ice cream faces increased competition from frozen yogurt is the perception that it is significantly less healthy. There are a number of vitamins and minerals, including calcium and protein, in both cream and yogurt. The big difference is cream is made from milk fat, milk solids, and sweeteners. To be considered cream, it must have a composition including at least 10% milk fat, although premium creams often boast a 16%-18% milk fat. On the other hand, yogurt has a much smaller percentage of milk fat. Plus, most yogurts do not include any sugar outside of the milk sugars (lactose).
One segment of the frozen treats industry where yogurt is particularly gaining acceptance is the stand-alone stores. Ice cream shops or malt shops have been around for decades but yogurt shops have been around for little more than a decade. The signification growth in yogurt shops has taken place in the last five years. A driving force behind this is the toppings. Frozen yogurt shops first relied on fruits and other healthy toppings which helped promote it as the healthy alternative. While the toppings are now similar for both cream and yogurt the public perception is yogurt is still healthier.
If there is one area in which ice cream dominates it is the number of available flavors. While frozen yogurt is catching up, it is still highly reliant on toppings to add flavor rather than the flavor of the yogurt itself.

Candy Buffets For Weddings

Trends for weddings are constantly changing but the wedding candy buffet seems to be one that is here to stay. Guests love having a sweet treat in addition to their wedding cake, and it can tie nicely into almost any theme that a bride can dream up. However, it is important to plan carefully in order to have a buffet that will be the talk of the entire event.
Of course, one of the first things that most brides think about when planning their wedding is the color scheme. They match every last detail to go with their chosen colors, and the candy in the buffet should not be an exception. Candies come in a variety of fun, bright colors and are often sold according to color, so a bride can purchase only the shades she needs to compliment her wedding.
In addition to choosing colors, many brides also choose a theme to pull their big day together. When it comes to buying candy for the buffet, there are many options that tie right in with some of the most popular themes. For example, salt water taffy is perfect for a beach themed wedding and old favorites like licorice and lollipops are perfect for a retro themed event.
When it comes to actually setting up the buffet, it is important to choose containers that will make as big a splash as the candy itself. Again, it is a good idea to keep the theme in mind when choosing containers for the display. The bride with the beach wedding may want to use decorative pails, while a retro bride may choose old fashioned penny candy jars.
In most cases, there is far more candy left over than anyone wants to be stuck with when their wedding day has come and gone. To avoid having candy piled up until the one year anniversary, provide guests with candy bowls, boxes or bags to take home the leftovers. A cute container like a retro penny candy jar can even make a great favor.
The wedding candy buffet has become a popular trend over the past few years and it seems as though it will remain one of the most fun and interesting options available to brides. Candy comes in so many different colors, there are options available to fit any color scheme or theme. Remember to choose the right containers and take home bags to tie the entire look together.

A Brief History Of Lollipops

It's unclear exactly which company, or even which country invented the first lollipops, but it's certain that different variations of this popular treat existed in many places. Evidence has proved that even as early as ancient Egypt, people crystallized nuts and fruits in honey and placed them on sticks for easy access. In Europe during the Middle Ages, sugar was imported and therefore an expensive luxury item that few could afford, so candy was made into a hard block and given only to the nobility on ornate handles. It became a more prevalent item that many can afford at around the 17th century during the time of Charles Dickens, and that's where many concluded the name derived from. The Racine Confectionery Machine Company invented the first automated lollipop production machine in 1908, and the idea hit off immediately.
One of the most popular lollipops around are the Dum Dum Lollipops. It was named by a man named I.C. Bahr and part of the famous Spangler Candy Company. The lollipops are famous for its 9 or 10 regular flavors and 1 or 2 "special" flavors that are cycled in and out. Kids also love to pick out a "mystery flavor" which are mixed in with other labeled ones in a bag and test their luck. These lollipops can be found everywhere among people of all ages, but they are especially popular among small children and often given as encouragements at school or home.
Another popular brand of lollipops are the Jolly Rancher Lollipops. The Jolly Rancher Company was created by Bill and Dorothy Harmsen in Colorado in 1949, and the company originally concentrated on making hard candy. However, their candy was so loved by everyone that they decided to combine that and the idea of lollipops together. Therefore, the Jolly Rancher Lollipops were created and introduced 50 years later in 1999, and they have been a successful part of the business ever since. The shape of these are square shaped, unlike most other round or oval shaped lollipops, and they come in flavors of Apple, Grape, Cherry, and Watermelon. These lollipops seem to be more popular among older high school crowds because of its intense fruit flavors.
It certainly looks like everyone loves a good lollipop, especially with all the brands and flavors out in the market. The idea is such a hit because of the cheap prices and fun way people created to eat them. However, if you're one of the few that doesn't love to unwrap one in your free time, definitely get your hands on Hershey's Factory Favorites - Bite Size Assortment. With the huge selection that the Hershey's Company puts out, you're bound to get attached to one of them.
