What Makes Ice Cream… Ice Cream?


Not all frozen treats are created equal! For a dessert to be officially called "ice cream" in the U.S., it must contain:
  • At least 10% milk fat
  • Sweeteners (like sugar or honey)
  • A mix of air (yes, air!) for texture
Ice cream is churned while it freezes, which prevents large ice crystals from forming and creates that smooth, creamy texture we love. Add-ins like chocolate chips, fruit, or caramel are mixed in toward the end of the process — that’s where the fun happens!
